in 30 weeks, 6 days, 21 hours, 56 minutes, 58 seconds
To everyone who completed the 2014 Sporting Proud Triathlon
Saturday 6th. September 2014 saw some 300 competitors take to the sea and roads around Brittas Bay, Co. wicklow raising funds for Orbis Ireland and the Solas Project.
The tides and weather proved favourable for what was a terrific day for all participants and their supporters. Mark Hitchen was first out of the water in the Olympic Individual event with a time of 22 minutes and 45 seconds but his lead was quickly gobbled up by some blisteringly fast cycles on what was a challenging new route for 2014. Rory Carton’s cycle time of just 1 hour, 15 minutes and 51 seconds, followed by a pacy run of 48 minutes and 43 seconds saw him take the lead and eventual honours in the Men’s Individual Olympic Race.
In the Olympic Team event, Team Pioneer took first place with Goodbody’s Teams in both second and third position.
Siobhan Enright took the Women’s Olympic Individual title in a total time of 3 hours, 16 minutes and 6 seconds. Runner up was Sarah Donnelly.
The Sprint event proved more popular than ever with the winning title being taken by Michael Grogan for the men and Linda Clarke for the Ladies.
If you’d like a fitness goal and to help fund some awesome work with two fantastic kids charities – why not put Sporting Proud in your calendar for 2015?
The Crew at Sporting Proud
Put simply, we’re about improving things for kids. Sporting Proud was established to raise money for childrens’ charities through sporting events. Proceeds are delivered direct to the chosen charity (always a properly-registered Irish charity) and all of our organisers give their time and effort, and often other resources, voluntarily. We have always prided ourselves on running the best organisation and event we can in a way that ensures that practically all the money raised finds its way to the relevant cause.
Our philosophy is best articulated as children, sport, fitness and fun – and that pretty much sums up what it is that we do. We provide the opportunity for like-minded individuals to participate in a unique sporting event, gaining a real sense of personal accomplishment while simultaneously raising the funds to finance a specific kids oriented charitable project. The event is competitive for those who want it to but for others it’s all about getting fit and having some fun!
These are targets and your effort, whether it meets part of this target, or exceeds it,will all go to this year’s worthy cause.
We ask you to forward as much as possible of your sponsorship money to Sporting Proud (see the Contact page for address) ahead of the Big Day.
start to beg, borrow and raise the money… Good luck !!
